The First Law
You Are Energy
We are not molecular machines. We are energetic processes. When something goes wrong with our minds or our bodies, it’s not generally because there is a faulty part that needs to be fixed. It’s often because there is some fundamental change in our energy—and we have more control over that than we have been taught to believe.
The Second Law
Energy is Not Free
Energy is not free—but we have control over how we budget it. Everyone has a certain “energy budget” with a somewhat inflexible pre-set spending ceiling. Following a hierarchy of energy needs, we must use our limited energy budget to power us through the daily grind of physical life, our thoughts and experiences, and for healing. When we understand that there is only so much energy to go around, we can better cultivate it and redirect the energy we have for the things that matter most.
The Third Law
Life is Resistance
Life is resistance—and that’s a good thing. Fatigue, inflammation, emotional burnout—these are signs of energy resistance within our bodies. At the mitochondrial level, energy resistance feels terrible, and too much of it leads to poor health outcomes (and eventually, death). But without resistance, there is no life. The constant variation in energy resistance within a goldilocks zone is what enables our cells to adapt, driving our constant growth, healing, and transformation.
